Mithras Slaying The Bull
Often The God Mithras is depicted slaying a great bull. As the God of Light, Mithras wields a sword that represents the rays of the sun. The blood of the bull as it flows is the release at the vernal equinox of the vital essences of the earth. This vital blood fertilizes the seeds of all living things.

The Bull is connected to the constellation Tauras while the Serpent, representing the evil Ahriman, is connected to the constellation Scorpio. These constellations are at the opposites of the Zodiac and represent part of the eternal battle of light and dark. Mithras, in slaying the Bull, nourishes the universe with its life force.
